INFORMATION Update

The Great Western is the redevelopment project for the now vacant Forest Centre, St George’s Terrace in the heart of the Perth CBD. The Great Western will be THE social and business home for Western Australia’s resources sector.

The Venue

Located at 221 ST Georges Tce and currently trading as Rigby’s, a three level 1100 person capacity tavern, ideally suited to redevelopment into a resource focused tavern and function centre.

  • Public bar and beer garden - the social hub of The Great Western, inviting and friendly, decorated with an array of resource sector memorabilia and displays from industry vendors.
  • The Super Pit – versatile events space suitable for large scale presentations, seated industry functions, and flexibility to host several smaller functions concurrently.
  • Lasseter's  – up-market functions room with public and private areas and the ability to host more intimate functions.
  • The venue is licensed from primary building to external walls of enclosure, delivering West Australia’s only air conditioned beer garden. This ensures social distancing can be observed outside the venue, as well as the three internal levels.

The Technology

Underpinning the venues classic tavern stylings are networked screens which have the ability to customize the look and feel of different areas within the venue based on client requirements.

Given the critical nature of networking in the resource sector, the Great Western will launch with custom-built networking platform: https://app.newnormal.work/ to provide accurate, targeted marketing and engagement to the wider resource sector community. The platform enables interaction, communication support and business amongst people and businesses within the mining and energy industries. The platform also enables The Great Western to partner with venues across the state, providing additional benefits to its loyal clientele base and increased revenue generating activities.

The new reality…

While we have seen the suspension of major hydrocarbon projects, mining appears to be more optimistic, with major projects still underway, and more scheduled, and a generally high level of plant utilization in mining / construction. Many of the service providers across resources remain busy, however much work is now being done at home, with less time spent in the office.

This has seen an increased flexibility on working, however this is not without its challenges.

A key reality of working from home, is people do not want to put everything in writing, and remote / Zoom / Skype meetings are recorded. This sees the face to face meeting as increasingly critical, and the Great Western, will be the place for such meetings.  Via our huge air conditioned beer garden, perfect for business meetings, and social distancing, no matter what the weather is doing, the Great Western will be the place to do business, to talk turkey as such.
